About the Course

The Master Herbalist Program is an intermediate level course that includes all material from the Herbalist Program and continues to build on these topics. Students will gain a strong foundation in the history of herbal medicine and its application across cultures throughout various time periods. The Master Herbalist Program introduces fascinating botany concepts, beginning with plant anatomy and leading into classification and identification by plant family. Additionally, within this section, students will learn essential harvesting skills and guidelines for collecting and preserving herbs safely and effectively. The course then dives into key herbalist vocabulary to establish familiarity with essential terms used within the field. Students will then be able to use these terms to be able to understand the mechanism of action of various herbs. The Master Herbalist Program enables students to cross-examine these mechanisms and explore potential interactions with drugs, vitamins, and even other herbs. Finally, the Master Herbalist Program concludes with the exciting culmination of all previous material in the form of creating herbal remedies. In this section, students become familiar with the necessary equipment, standard measurements, and dosages used within herbal medicine. Students will also learn about the different herbal remedies and how to prepare them hands-on. The course provides helpful guidelines and recipes to be able to create herbal remedies, including teas, ointments, tinctures, and many more.
